Roughly 80 Arizona National Guard soldiers were greeted with cheers from friends and family Thursday at the Goldwater Air National Guard Base in Phoenix when they returned home from a yearlong deployment in the Middle East.

The servicemen and servicewomen of the 198th Regional Support Group spent about 10 months in Jordan for an international training exercise and relationship building with other countries and services operating in the region, according to Sgt. Wes Parrell of the Arizona National Guard.

Before leaving for Jordan, the unit had to complete training in the United States, said Parrell. They also had to undergo a debriefing process before they could return to the United States, he said.
